Mario Badescu Skincare: First Impressions

Mario Badescu Skincare: First Impressions

I first came across this brand when watching one of Zoella's Youtube videos. She talked about how she was using the Drying Lotion to clear up her skin. Over the last 6 months or so, I've been really struggling with my skin. Coming off my contraceptive pill sent my hormones all over the place, my skin freaked out and I've been left with lots of very annoying blemishes that nothing seems to clear. I've always been really lucky with my skin, so to be nearly 27 years old and feeling insecure in my skin has been really alien to me. I knew that I really needed to do something about this, and remembering Zoella's video, I was willing to try anything.

I purchased the Mario Badescu 50th Anniversary Edition Set from Beauty Bay. I'd never shopped on Beauty Bay before, but it was so easy and they offer free next day delivery on orders over £15 which is the dream. Within the set you get:
  • Drying Lotion - Spot and whitehead treatment
  • Silver Powder - Blackhead remover
  • Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs & Rosewater - Hydrating and refreshing facial spray
  • Flower & Tonic Mask - Purifying face mask
  • Enzyme Cleansing Gel - Exfoliating face wash
For the few weeks that I've been using these products, my favourites have been the Drying Lotion and the Enzyme Cleansing Gel. These have become permanent additions to my daily skincare routines. I've been using the Cleansing Gel as my second cleanse on an evening. Then, I apply the Drying Lotion right at the end of my routine, just before going to bed. This is probably the weirdest product I have ever used. It's made up of a water-like consistency with pink powder settled in the bottom. You put a cotton bud into the bottle and dip it into the pink powder. You then apply this powder directly onto any spots that you have. In the short time I have been using this product, I have really noticed the difference. It calms red, unsightly spots overnight - eventually getting rid of them all together.

The Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs & Rosewater is really great for hydrating skin throughout the day or using to set makeup. The Flower & Tonic Mask is a really lovely, calming mask for the skin. I try to use this mask twice a week. After using, I have definitely noticed that my skin is brighter and it feels so smooth. The one product that I haven't used much of is the Silver Powder. I've used it once and found it quite messy. You place a damp cotton pad into the powder and apply to the skin where you want to target blackheads. To be honest, I don't think I have given it a proper try and I will definitely be giving it another go.

I've only been using these products for a few weeks, so I definitely haven't seen their full potential yet. But, from what I have seen so far, I am really impressed. Have you tried any products from Mario Badescu? Any products that you would recommend? Let me know in the comments, or on Instagram and Twitter.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream

There's a shocker - Kate's got another post about Kiehl's. But, can you really blame it - it's such a fab brand. There is no doubt about it -  if I need new skincare, I'm heading straight to Kiehl's. The Ultra Facial Cream is one of Kiehl's best selling products. So, when I ran out of face cream, I knew this had to be the next product to try.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream

This product brands itself as a 24-hour daily facial cream, where it continuously replenishes the skin with moisture throughout the day. I have dry/combination skin, so the sales assistant in the Kiehl's store said this would be perfect for me. The moisturiser is really lightweight, so it sits perfectly under makeup. The lightweight formula is probably my favourite thing about it - I hate it when moisturiser is so thick it feels like it's is clogging your pores.

I've been using this product first thing in the morning, after my morning cleansing routine. A really small amount of this product goes a really long way, so I know this little tub will last a really long time. When my skin is in a bad way, I will get little dry patches that nothing will shift on my face. Since using this moisturiser, I haven't had any of these. I've even been using this as a night cream when my skin has been feeling more dehydrated. What with the up and down weather we've been having lately and all the central heating - this generally creates havoc with my skin. This moisturiser has really helped with this, leaving my skin feeling fresh and hydrated.

What are some of your favourite Kiehl's products? I'm always looking for new things to try. Also, make sure to check out some of my other Kiehl's review posts if you liked this one.

Wishlist #3

Wishlist #3

This post contains sponsored links

It has been too long since I've done a wishlist post - here's number one and number two if you want a little preview of what's to come. I wanted to share with you some of the things that have been catching my eye over the last few months and I've resisted buying - so far!

1. Facial Steamer
Over the last few months, I have been taking my skincare game a lot more seriously and seeing some really good results. The Panasonic Ionic Facial steamer works as a 6-minute spa to help stimulate the skin's collagen and make it more elastic. Also, when used before applying makeup it acts as a primer, and also helps to remove makeup at the end of the day. Apparently, it even helps to remove stubborn waterproof mascara more easily. A great little gadget to add to my skincare routine.

2. MAC Lipstick - Hug Me
I saw Tanya Burr use this recently in one of her YouTube videos and it looked so nice on her. It looks like a really natural, every day nude. Talking about MAC, I am eagerly awaiting the Jamie Genevieve collaboration lipstick. Anytime now please MAC!

3. Stila Glitter Eyeshadows
I feel like I am SO late to the party talking about these. But, I've recently seen them being used in a makeup tutorial and they looked fab. There has been a lot of mixed reviews about the Glossier lidstars, so I'm probably going to stay clear of those and opt for these instead.

4. Levis 501s
I was chatting about jeans in my last wishlist post. I am still (and probably forever will be) on the search for black jeans that don't fade after two washes. Is this not the most annoying thing ever? I'd really love you to let me know if you'd had luck with these jeans staying black, before I drop £85 on them!

I would love for you to let me know your thoughts on these products, both good and bad. Find me in the comments, or on Instagram and Twitter.
