2017: A Review

2017: A Review

2017 is nearly over and, I know everyone says this every year, but it has gone by so quickly. Quicker than any other.

At the end of last year, I set myself some goals for 2017 - read the full post here. Within today's post, I wanted to refect back on the past year and the goals that I set myself.

These goals included:
1. Make my blog the best it can be
2. Organise my time better
3. Keep ticking things off my 30 before I'm 30 list
4. Travel more
5. To complete the Bath Half Marathon
6. Do things that make me happy

In terms of the blog, I think I have come a really long way in the last year. From working with brands to attending more events, I've really been focussed on putting myself, and this blog, out there this year. I'm pretty pleased with how it's all paid off. Here's to another year of blogging and growth of Kate Morgan Cecilia.

Organising my time is something that I feel that I have nailed this year. Granted, I'm not perfect, but I'm so much better than I was. At the beginning of 2017, I bought myself a cheap diary from Wilko where I write to-do lists for the day in. This has allowed me to be more productive and plan my time more efficiently this year. This is definitely something that I will be taking with me into next year.

The 30 before I'm 30 list has been well underway this year, including getting new piercings, running the Bath Half Marathon, hiking up Pen y Fan and giving blood. The Bath Half was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but I'm so glad that I did it. I'm really excited to keep ticking more things off the list next year.

And finally, doing things to make me happy. I've definitely done that this year. I feel that I've really found what is important to me this year. It's about being with my friends and family, it's about being the third (or thirteenth!) wheel with all of my friends and not caring in the slightest. It's about seeing my friends buying houses, getting married and having children - they are all the things that make me so happy. Whatever 2018 brings, if it's full of my friends and family, I'm sure it will be a happy one. Travel is something that I do really want to work on in 2018 - it's something that I didn't really give any priority to this year. But, it can't all be a success right! In fact, I've already started with my travel goal by booking myself a solo trip to Thailand. I'm so excited!!

Here's to 2018 - to a happy and healthy one for you all and those close to you. Here's to making new memories and more adventures.
See you next year!

2017 Favourites

2017 Favourites - Kate Morgan Cecilia

2017 Favourites - Kate Morgan Cecilia

2017 Favourites - Kate Morgan Cecilia

Oh 2017, you have gone by very fast. It seems all but a blur.
But, all in all, it's been a pretty good one. Instead of my regular monthly favourites, I wanted to reflect on my favourites throughout the whole year. This was such a difficult one to decide, and I'll probably think of more things after publishing. But, here we go, my favourite beauty products from 2017.

Jo Malone - Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne

For my birthday this year, I treated myself to this Jo Malone scent. After spending a very long time in the store with the lovely sales assistant, I settled on this scent. I still absolutely love it. You might have seen me talking about this in a number of blog posts this year, including my Signature Scents post. It's such a fresh, but woody scent that is maybe a touch more on the masculine side - but they're my favourite.

Estee Lauder - Double Wear Foundation

Estee Lauder - Double Wear Foundation
I was very late to the party with this foundation. But this year, I made the plunge and tried out this foundation for myself. I was not disappointed. The staying power of this foundation is the best. It has really good coverage, without leaving your skin looking like it's caked in makeup. It's definitely going to be a permanent feature in my makeup bag for many years to come I'm sure. See my full review of this foundation here.

L'Oreal - Paradise Mascara

This product is the mascara of dreams, it just had to go into my favourites. Bold statement, but it's probably the best mascara I have ever used for volumizing and lengthening my lashes. This mascara was all over Instagram over the summer, everyone was totally obsessed with it. The product really speaks for itself and absolutely lives up to all the hype.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil

Kiehl's -  Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil
From just one look at my blog, it's not hard to notice that I am obsessed with this brand. I started using this product back in May, and I haven't used anything else to remove my makeup since then. This product is so low maintenance - perfect for me. You literally put a couple of pumps of the product into your hand, work it into your face, add a splash of water, then wipe it all off with a cloth. Literally as easy as that - even for eye makeup too!

Charlotte Tilbury - Beauty Glow Instant Look in a Palette & Penelope Pink Lipstick
2017 was the year that I branched out and tried Charlotte Tilbury products for myself. I had always longed to try them but never parted with my cash. Until this year, and I went for her products in a big way. The Instant Look in a Palette has been a makeup favourite of mine this year. I basically don't use anything else. I love how I have pretty much everything I need in one palette. You can also create a number of different eye looks just using the three shades, so it's really versatile.

When reflecting on my most worn lip colour, it was definitely the Penelope Pink shade. This was a new addition to my makeup bag in 2017 and quickly became a firm favourite. It's from their K.I.S.S.I.N.G range, so it's more of a hydrating finish compared to the matte range. For me, it's the perfect 'my lips but better' nude.

The Body Shop - Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

The Body Shop - Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask
I've really got into face masks this year. In 2016, I set myself a goal to put more time aside for self-care, and I really think that I have achieved that. Especially setting time aside to have a bath and relax with a face mask on. This has definitely been my favourite. It leaves my skin feeling so clean and detoxified. It's also been helping the breakouts I've been having in the latter part of this year.

I'd really love to know what have been some of your favourites this year. Let me know in the comments, or find me on on Instagram and Twitter. Here's to 2018 and another year of favourites.

Day Out: Blogosphere Christmas Festival

Day Out: Blogosphere Christmas Festival

This weekend, I attended the Blogosphere Christmas Festival. This magazine has been a love of mine since I started blogging, but I had never been to one of their events. It was always on blogger to-do list. So, when I saw the tickets were announced for the Christmas Festival, I knew I had to be there. On the day, I arranged to meet up with the lovely Hannah, Sarah and Kristy - you really should also check out their blogs! It was so lovely to meet some more bloggers. There is nothing better than meeting likeminded people who just get what you do. Whilst, of course, I love my non-blogger friends. Blogger friends just get it - and understand your need for the perfect picture!

The day was filled with some fantastic panels - I managed to watch all of them and they left me feeling so inspired. All the panellists were so real and honest - they gave some really good advice that I will definitely be taking on board. I particularly loved Siobhan from Just a Uniform, Vix from Vix Melrew, Sam from Made From Beauty and Ree from Really Ree. It was also so nice to meet some bloggers that I have followed for a while in person - everyone was just so nice. That's one thing I really love about the blogging world - people are so nice.

Alongside the panels, there were some really great brands to speak to. Including So...? Fragrances and OXG Hair who I already really love. Absolute Collagen was also at the event. This was a new brand to me and we were able to have a really good chat with Maxine and her daughter Darcy. They spoke all about how their product was created and the benefits of taking the collaged supplements. They were so passionate about the brand, it was hard not to get excited about it with them. I'm really excited to try it out for myself, and after seeing there skin and hair, I need those benefits too!

Day Out: Blogosphere Christmas Festival

All in all, it was a totally fab day. It, again, confirms the reason why I started this blog - not for free stuff as some may think. But for the people and the experiences. Without this blog, I would have met the people I did or learnt things that I did at this event. I'm writing this post the day after the event and I'm feeling so inspired. Inspired to make Kate Morgan Cecilia the best that it can be. I had the best day and I will definitely be heading to another one of the Blogosphere events.

Don't forget you can find me on Instagram/Twitter.

Festive Baking: Tanya Burr's Triple Chocolate Cookies

Festive Baking: Tanya Burr's Triple Chocolate Cookies

Festive Baking: Tanya Burr's Triple Chocolate Cookies

I love baking all year round - but there is something so festive about baking at Christmas time. Sadly, I haven't had much time to do much baking this month, December has just been so busy for me so far! But, whilst I was visiting my parents, I put some time aside to make some cookies with a festive twist. For cookies, I can't use any other recipe than Tanya Burr's. She first posted this recipe on her blog, and then she put in in her first baking book, Tanya Bakes.

Festive Baking: Tanya Burr's Triple Chocolate Cookies

Festive Baking: Tanya Burr's Triple Chocolate Cookies

This recipe makes the best cookies. It makes 10 huge, soft cookies. I'm really not a fan of hard cookies, so these are perfect for me. To add a festive twist to this recipe, I added some Terry's Chocolate Orange in replace of the milk chocolate. A chocolate orange (or five) is a must for me around Christmas time. You really don't need to be an expert baker with this recipe, it's so quick and simple to follow. Apart from the fact that I added to much milk and ended up with a gloopy mess. But, even after all of that, they still ended up tasting so great - foolproof!

Traditionally, I would line my baking trays with greaseproof paper. However, for this bake, I used the Vremi Baking Mats that were kindly sent to me. They are made of silicone and can be used in place of greaseproof paper. In a pack, you get three mats in two different sizes. They worked so well. After baking, the cookies came off the mats so easily without sticking to the mat or the pan. They were also so easy to clean as there was basically nothing to clean off them, just a few crumbs. You can also have the chance to win these baking mats and one of their spiralizers too, just head over to this link for more....Win the Vremi Spiralizer and Baking Mats

In no time at all, 10 super soft and tasty cookies perfect for guests or (more likely) eating all to yourself in front of a Christmas film. I'd love to hear what you've been baking so far this festive season. Find me in the comments or on Instagram/Twitter.

Whistles: The Perfect Winter Coat

Alexandra Belted Coat, Whistles

One of the best things about Winter is getting all cozy in the perfect coat. I have always been on the lookout for the perfect camel coat, but I had never found one that I loved. Anna, from the Anna Edit featured this coat on her YouTube channel and I had to give it a try for myself.

This beauty is the Alexandra Belted Coat from Whistles. It's pricey, there is no denying that. But, I managed to bag this in the 20% off sale, making it considerably cheaper. To be honest, money spent on a coat like this becomes an investment. This is something that I hope I will be wearing for many years to come.

Alexandra Belted Coat, Whistles

The tailoring on this coat is perfect, the price tag clearly represents the quality in this coat. I love how it can be dressed up with black jeans and boots, or dressed down with trainers and blue jeans. You could honestly be wearing the most basic outfit and this coat just takes your outfit to the next level and makes you look put together and like you've actually made an effort. When wearing this out, I've been taking off the belt (much to my Mum's dismay). But, I love that I have the option to wrap myself up in this coat on really cold days.

Have you found your perfect Winter coat? I'd love for you to share it with me in the comments,  or find me on Instagram/Twitter.

Gift Guide: For the Man in Your Life

Gift Guide: For the Man in Your Life

I hope you're all having a fab December so far - I have already eaten all the mince pies and drank all the mulled wine - and I'm not even sorry. It's the most wonderful time of the year, as they say. So, I'm making the most of it.

You might have already seen my Gift Guide: For the Woman in Your Life which I posted last week. So, to keep things fair, I've also created this Christmas gift guide for the, usually tricky, men in your life. Back in September, I created a gift guide post for What to Buy a Dad Who Has Everything. So, this might help you if you're struggling with ideas for your Dad. In this post, I want to broaden the gift guide to other men you might have in your lives - brothers, boyfriends and uncles alike.

Gift Guide: For the Man in Your Life

I find men incredibly hard to buy for. So, being single this Christmas fills me with joy, as I know I only have my Dad struggle to find a present for. With present giving, I find it really helpful to really listen to conversations for present ideas. They might drop in that their mate has got the new FIFA game and they'd really like it too, or they could be complaining about their broken/old wallet. I really love this Ted Baker one. You'd be surprised how many present ideas you can find just in conversations.

If your man is into gadgets, and you've got the budget, an Apple Watch would go down very well on Christmas morning. Also, a really decent pair of headphones would be great for any music lovers. I have heard really good things about the Beats Wireless ones. For fitness fans, you cant go wrong with a Fitbit. They have a whole host of watches, from really simple activity trackers. To ones that track your heart rate and have GPS tracking. I have the Charge 2 myself and I absolutely love it.

Gift Guide: For the Man in Your Life

It wouldn't be a true Christmas gift guide if it didn't include some socks and PJs. I get that some people hate this as a gift. But actually, Christmas can be a time to buy people something they maybe wouldnt ordinarily buy for themselves. So, take socks to another level with these cashmere socks from Falke or some more expensive loungewear/PJs like these Calvin Klein joggers or the classic Adidas three stripe tracksuit bottoms.

Food and drink is always a sure-fire gift for men of any age. If you're looking to be spendy, a really good bottle of alcohol/spirit is a gift sure to impress. Make sure to find out their favourite drink and go from there. Less spendy, but still amazing, are the Gins from Edinburgh Gin. I'm not a Gin lover, but even I really liked the rhubarb and ginger one. Mixing food and drink into one is the Charbonnel et Walker whisky truffles. This would make a really luxurious treat for your loved one - also you can pinch one and have a taste too!

Gift Guide: For the Man in Your Life

I said it at the beginning, but I really do think listening to conversations is the absolute best way to ensure that you are buying the best presents for your loved ones. I keep a track of them year round in the notes on my phone. Very organised, I know - but I am so thankful for it when it comes to Christmas and Birthdays. Please let me know if you have any other gift ideas.  Find me in the comments, or on Instagram and Twitter.

Best Christmas Jumpers 2017

At Christmas time, there is nothing I love more than a festive jumper. The more outrageous the better to be honest! I wanted to share with some of the best Christmas jumpers that I've seen so far this year. And, let's be honest, I'll probably end up buying one or two of them too!

Mince Pies Before Guys - ASOS
Mince Pies Before Guys - ASOS
This has to be the best one that I have seen so far this year. Yes yes yes to this. Mince pies are totally better than guys. I also love that the jumper appears to be slightly cropped - this would look so flattering paired with some high waisted jeans.

Santa...Define Good - Next
Next have got their jumper game down this year - I'd really recommend you heading over to their website to see their full collection. I love a festive jumper with a cheeky or witty statement on it. I also really like how this jumper is black, it makes it more unusual compared to Christmas jumpers.

Jingle Belle - Joules
Now, I realise this isn't technically a jumper, but it was too cute not to feature. Joules isn't normally a website I would go to for a Christmas jumper, but they have some really festive pieces on their website. I love the play on words for the slogan too - such a sucker for a festive pun.

Dear Santa - Next
Dear Santa - Next
Again, Next killing it with the festive jumpers. This top is so gorgeous. I really love the fairy lights detailing on the body of the jumper and the arms - so cute. I also really love the colour of the jumper, I'm really into grey marl jumpers this winter.

Christmas Puddings - Marks & Spencer
Christmas Puddings - Marks & Spencer
M&S coming in strong with this one. It's more understated (kind of) than the other ones, but it is still so cute and festive. I really love the glittery puddings, they make the jumper a real statement piece. On the M&S website, they styled this with a floaty, black midi skirt which looked so nice.

Happy Christmas jumper shopping guys. Please let me know if you spot any other fab jumpers - there is always room for more! Let me know in the comments, or via Instagram/Twitter.

Festive Days Out Ideas

Homemade wreath 'It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas'.... but seriously, isn't it? It's felt like Christmas from mid-November for me in all honesty. In December, I love nothing more than a festive day out. Wrapped up in my winter coat and a mulled wine in hand - is there really anything better?

One of my favourite things to do around Christmas time is heading out to a Christmas Market. If you're feeling rather flush, there are some beautiful markets in Europe - this is a dream of mine to go to one. A bit closer to home you will find a Christmas market in pretty much every city. My personal favourites have to be Bath, York and Nottingham.

York Christmas Market

For me, nothing says Christmas more than going to a pantomime. For years we used to go to the panto in York and it would really make me feel festive. Even if you're not taking any children with you, it's still the most fun. If that's not your bag, the film Nativity is showing as a musical in the Eventim Apollo, London. If I had a weekend free to go to this I absolutely would.

Harry Potter, Backyard Cinema - London

Staying with the London theme, there are so many festivities to be had there. From Winter Wonderland to Ice Skating at Somerset House. A few weeks ago, I attended the Backyard Cinema. It was the most festive experience, and we weren't even watching a Christmas film. Their Winter Night Garden is in Clapham Common where you enter the cinema through a wardrobe and settle down in your beanbag, with a mulled wine, ready to watch the film. It's all so magical.

What are your favourite days out at Christmas time? I'd love for you to share them with me in the comments, or find me on Instagram/Twitter.

Gift Guide: For the Woman in Your Life

Tanya's Christmas

It's December, tis the season and all that. The day that my Christmas tree will be going up and Christmas songs will be constantly playing in my house. The best time of year.

With all of that, it also means it's time to start thinking about presents. I find women are generally easier to but for - mostly because I just bit things that I would like. But still, it can be a difficulty to find the perfect present or not buy that special someone similar things every year. For today's post, I wanted to share some present ideas for that special woman in your life - be that your Mum, sister, friend or girlfriend, hopefully, there will be something for everyone.

Gift Guide: For the Woman in Your Life

Anthropologie is one of my favourite shops at the moment, they have some beautiful things. From homewares, books or jewellery - there is always something for everyone in that store. Their monogrammed mugs are a great gift idea. Also, all of their candles are seriously gorgeous. I really love the books in this store, I recently saw they had the Little Book of Life Hacks. It's honestly such a lovely book with gorgeous illustrations inside, and some pretty useful life tips too. You'd be hard pushed not to find something in this store to be honest.

Tanya's Christmas

I couldn't really do a gift guide without including some beauty bits, could I! No surprises here, but Kiehl's are doing some really beautiful gift sets this year. I really like the Season Treatings Body Care Gift Set. It's perfect for someone who is maybe new to the brand, and it includes the iconic Creme de Corps. Neom is another brand doing some really lovely gift sets. The Great Everyday 3 Step Programme is a really lovely set that would make a really pampering gift for someone. The set includes a Body & Hand Wash, Face, Body & Hair Oil & Home Mist. A really luxurious treat for someone. Speaking of luxury, you really can't go wrong with something from Jo Malone. The perfumes are totally stunning from there, but why not buy them something they wouldn't ordinarily treat themselves too, like a Bath Oil or a Body & Hand Wash. This would make such a luxurious treat for them.

I always find fashion bits a really tricky one when gift giving - unless you know exactly what they want or would like it can be a bit more of a guessing game, with more chance of getting it wrong. But for Christmas, PJs and socks are always the classic choice. I for one love to receive some new PJs for Christmas. If your budget stretches, why not make it more of a treat purchase and get some lovely nightwear from The White Company.

Gift Guide: For the Woman in Your Life

There we have it - gift guide done. If only shopping was that easy right?! Please let me know if you have any other gift ideas. Let me know in the comments or find me on Instagram and Twitter.
