Self Care: Why It Is So Important

For me, self-care is something that is extremely important to me, but it is usually something that gets put to the side when things get busy. But actually, it's these times when self-care is probably the most important. At the start of the year, I set myself a goal to take better care of myself, both physically and mentally. I can't say that I’ve been perfect, but I've really made more of an effort. I wanted to share with you some of my favourite ways to have a bit of me-time.

Manicure & Pedicure
When I have my nails looking good, I feel like I have really got my life together. With this, it doesn’t have to be going to the nail salon every month, cause I know I can’t afford that. For me, an at home mani/pedi works just as well. Even if you’re doing it yourself, it allows you to put some time aside to have a pamper.

Whilst this might not be the most enjoyable thing to do on this list, exercise is so important for your physical and mental health. It’s important to find a form of exercise that you enjoy, it shouldn't be something that feels like a drag to do. Running, weights, yoga or even just going for a walk, it’s the perfect opportunity to have a bit of self-care time.

Face Mask
I am totally obsessed with face masks and try to fit these into my routine twice a week. It’s really nice to take 10 minutes out of your day to apply a face mask and relax while it’s doing its business on your skin. My favourites are the Mask of Magnaminty from LushThe Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask and 7th Heaven, in particular, the Dead Sea range.

Lush Bath
I try to make time to have a bath at least once a week. Of course, I shower on the other days, but a bath is something that I don’t always make time for. Now, at least once a week, I’ll grab myself a Lush bubble bar and run myself a bath. During this time, I’ll usually pop on a face mask and catch up with some of my favourite YouTubers.

Doing things you enjoy
Whatever it may be, it is so important to ensure that you are putting time aside to do things you enjoy - rather than just doing what those around you want to do. For me, it's blogging, watching YouTube and reality TV. I also love cooking, baking and spending time with the people I love. Whatever it is you enjoy - ensure that you’re making time for it.

I hope you have found some inspiration for ways we can develop some best practices when it comes to self-care. Whether it's mental health, physical health or just paying more attention to our appearance - self-care can mean so many different things to different people. Ensuring we spend time on ourselves can be really beneficial for not only us but the people around us too.

I'd love for you to share with me your favourite ways to look after yourself. Share with me in the comments, or find me oon Instagram and Twitter.
Love, Kate xx
