Winter Weekend Makeup Look

For the last weekend of Winter, all hail for March and the Spring months, I wanted to share with you a makeup look I have been loving over the last couple of months. Let's face it, the weather isn't feeling particularly spring-like, so I'll be continuing this look for as long as possible. If you want to see how I created this look, stay tuned.
In terms of the products I used, I have been changing up my base products recently. As much as I have been loving the Revlon ColorStay foundation, I bought it in a shade that is slightly too light for me. Does anyone else find it so hard to get the perfect foundation match with the awful lighting in shops?! So, to combat this, I have been mixing it with my Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation. I love the dewy glow this foundation gives the skin and it blends in really well with the Revlon foundation.
While this is a Winter look, you still can't pull me away from my Hoola bronzer.  I put a really light sweep of this across the tops of my cheeks and my temples to create a natural bronzed look. No contouring here. For my eyes, I used my trusty Naked 2 palette. I started by mixing 'foxy' and 'bootycall' and sweeping this all over my lid. I do this with pretty much any eye look I am creating. I find it creates a really nice base to blend other eyeshadows into. I then took the colour 'busted' and worked this into my crease initially, bringing down to the lid - focusing on the outer third of my eye. I then took a clean blending brush and blended everything together. I really love this for a quick but effective eye look.

In terms of my lips, I wanted to keep things really neutral as I had gone a bit darker on the eyes. You may have seen my Primark Beauty Haul and how obsessed I was with their lip crayons. Well, that love has stood the test of time as I am still using them. I opted for a pinky-nude as I thought this would compliment the eyeshadow well. Then with a final sweep of highlighter, the look is complete.
What have been some of your favourite makeup products this Winter? Any excuse for me to try something new....
Love, Kate xx

My Fitness Journey: Couch to Half Marathon Update 5

Happy Sunday!
I'm back again with another training update. You might remember last time I told you about my issues with knee pain - well sadly that didn't go away. Over the last month, I have been plagued with injury and this has impacted my training. A couple of weeks ago, I ran my furthest distance yet - 7 miles - I was so incredibly proud of myself. When I got home after this run, I noticed a lot of swelling on both of my knees. I was used to this in one knee, but definitely not both. I woke up the next morning and I was experiencing a lot of pain in both knees. I was getting worried at this point as they had never been like this before, so I rang the doctors and got an appointment later that day. I went to my appointment and it was the biggest waste of time. I was sent away and just told to take ibuprofen and to stop running - really not helpful. I feel like I can't blame them too much, it's not really their area of expertise.
So after that appointment didn't give me any answers, the only option I had was to book an appointment with a sports physio. Best decision ever. She was so knowledgeable, and the best thing was she told me that I didn't have to stop running. One of the things she told me was my arch had flattened since I had started running, meaning my running shoes were no longer supporting me. She gave me an insole to wear to help support my arches. It's just so incredible how little things like that can make such a difference. Hopefully, my injury woes are behind me now - onwards and upwards for the next three weeks. Yes, it is only three weeks away - oh God!
To help spur on my motivation, I went on a trip to Bath yesterday to check out the route. My gosh did that put the fear of God into me. As I drove around the route, a wave of sickness came over me when I drove down the road where the start/finish line will be. What was so noticeable was the amount of people out running in Bath. Maybe it is just a very active city, but it felt like marathon fever was in the air.
There is probably only one update left between now and the half, so keep sending me positive vibes, please. How are your New Year training goals going? Let me know in the comments.
Love, Kate xx

Valentine's Day Makeup Look

Love it or hate it, Valentine's Day is nearly upon us. It's not like you can escape from it either, so why not embrace it. Now, I may not have a date for v-day this year, but I certainly will not be moping around feeling sorry for myself - and neither should you.
So, whether you have a date with a lucky someone, or with your friends, this makeup is a classic for Valentine's Day.
You'll find all the products I used for this makeup look below. I wanted to keep a really simple eye look with the red lip, so I just blended a bit of Hoola bronzer into my crease, followed by a thin line of liquid eyeliner. I have really got into liquid eyeliner lately - I already know how late I am to the party! You'll see my trusty products are still in there - the Mary Lou Manizer, the Naked concealer and that amazing Revlon foundation I mentioned in my January Favourites

For my base, I have been trying out the MUA Pro Base Prime & Conceal Palette. I've really wanted to try out some of the colour correcting concealers, so for £4, I thought this would be worth a try. I've been really impressed with this product. I have a fair bit of redness and pigmentation on my skin, this product really helps to even things out. I love to put this on moisturised skin before using foundation.
For this Valentine's look, I thought there was nothing more iconic than a red lip. I have been in love with this lipstick from Rimmel, it's from their Only 1 collection. You will know by now how much I love matte lipsticks. This one is up there with one of my top favourites. I really need to purchase more from this collection.
Let me know how you are spending this Valentine's Day - hint, mine will probably be spent blogging.
Love, Kate xx

Garnier Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask Review

I am so into face masks at the moment. I've been really upping my skincare since the New Year and face masks have been playing a big part in that. I have noticed that my skin has become more combination lately, an oily t-zone with dry patches in areas. It's been highly annoying. So, when I saw this product on sale in Superdrug, I had to try it. I bought it for 99p, insanely cheap. I was also very interested in the claims they made about 1 weeks worth of hydrating serum.

I placed on the mask, as per the packet instructions. It was so slimy, but that didn't really put me off. I was pretty much expecting that from all the moisturising claims. I kept the mask on for the full amount of time they recommended. It was pretty comfortable to wear, but I didn't really feel like the mask was doing anything, like I have felt from other masks.

When I peeled the mask off, there was a lot of the serum left on my skin. The packet said you can either rub it into the skin or wipe it off with a cotton pad. I chose to rub it into my sink to really make the use of the product. After I had attempted to rub the serum into my skin, I noticed it took a very long time to sink into the skin and it felt a bit sticky on my face for the rest of the day. The next morning, I expected to wake up feeling the hydration the pack promised. Sadly, I didn't. My skin didn't really feel any different. I had really high hopes for this product, particularly as I normally love Garnier products. But I guess this one just isn't for me.

I would be really interested to hear if you have had success with this product - maybe you can tell me where I am going wrong. Let me know in the comments.

January Favourites

Well aren't you glad that's over. January sucks.
Every year it always feels like a never ending month. It has been so, so cold. Everyone is broke, not drinking, and eating healthily. Just no. But, onwards and upwards now as we head into February. Then again, don't get me started on Valentines Day's!!
Even though it's the worst month of the year, January has brought me some pretty great favourites. It's definitely been a month where I have been looking after myself, in terms of my health and my skincare, and I feel that is reflected in my favourites this month. So, without further ado...
I first heard about this product from the Queen of beauty, Nikke Tutorials. This girl loves to bake, and I saw her using this product in one of her videos. I always have an issue with the concealer on my under eyes creasing. This product totally gets rid of that. I apply a generous amount of the powder under my eyes after applying foundation and concealer. I then leave this to bake for about 5 minutes, then I wipe the excess powder away. This really helps to set my under eye with no creasing in sight. I also use this product on my T-zone and chin to help minimise my oily shine.

The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**K by Sarah Knight

2017 is going to be the year where I read more. So to begin this, I have been reading this fantastic book by Sarah Knight. It's a spin on The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up (another book I must read). I really love the premise of this book. We all have a certain amount of fucks (sorry mum!) that we can give to situations, whether that is money, time or effort. There is absolutely no point wasting them on things that don't matter to us or things that we just don't care about. Since reading this book, I have realised I do too much to please other people and I waste too much time worrying what other people will think of me. Not anymore!

I got this fragrance in my M&S beauty advent calendar. I feel in love with this right from the first use, and has been pretty much all I have been wearing since Christmas. I had never heard of this brand before, but I'm so glad I have been introduced to them. I had a browse around their website and they have some really beautiful products. Their fragrances are made from real flowers, fruits and spices. It says that this perfume contains about a pound ojasmine and white narcissus. I'm really into anything that is natural and isn't going to irritate my skin.

All my life, I feel I have been on a quest for the perfect foundation. Never really finding quite the right one. But, I finally think that search might be over. I was attracted to this product as it they had two variations, one for normal/dry skin and the other for oily/combination skin. This product goes onto the skin so smoothly and blends in really well. It is a high coverage product, but it doesn't look thick and cakey like some other foundations can. It gives me all the coverage that I need and keeps my oily skin at bay, whilst still leaving a nice glow.

You may have seen that I am currently training for a half marathon, see my latest update post here. I have been using this FitBit every day since Christmas. I love the running setting for my training, but I also love how it spurs me on to move more throughout the day. My job is largely done sitting down, so the hourly reminders to move are really helpful to me. I'm am going to be doing a full review post on this product, so stay tuned.

Pixi Glow TonicYou may have seen my recent blog post about this product, so I won't bang on about it too much here too. I have been obsessed with this product throughout January and my skin has loved me for it. Like it says on the tin, it gives my skin a lovely glow and has brightened my normally dull complexion.
What have been some of your January favourites? I'd love for you to share them with me in the comments.
Love, Kate xx
