Blogmas: The Things I Love About Christmas

Christmas, it literally is the most wonderful time of the year. I was called a 'Christmas nut' recently and I couldn't agree more. There is just something so special about this time of year that fills me with festive joy. I wanted to share with you some of the things that I love most about Christmas. I will keep it to my absolute favourite things, as I could be here all day!

1. Being with family and friends - I know this is an obvious one, but it's the time of year where you make an effort to see people you might not see that much for the rest of the year. Christmas drinks with friends or Sunday dinners with family friends, it's the perfect time of year for socialising.

2. Food - I can't think about Christmas without being so excited for all the food. The obvious is the Christmas Day meal, turkey, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes - the works! The lead-up to the big day is also full of food for me. Christmas meals with work and my friends. Mince pies, at least one a day. Also, I have found a new love for Mr Kipling Frosted Fancies, I'm eating these like they're going out of fashion. I'm kind of glad Christmas is only once a year, as I think my health would suffer badly with all the eating I do at Christmas.

3. Music - Christmas is perfect for a good singalong. I love to fill my house with Christmas music and sing at the top of my lungs. I also love carols at Christmas, I've never been one for going carol singing, but there is something so lovely about music at Christmas time. I have visions of families singing Christmas songs around a piano....maybe I watch too many Christmas films.

4. Presents - I know this isn't the meaning of Christmas, but whether we like it or not, it is a big part of the big day. People may say this a lot, but I actually prefer to give presents rather than receiving them. I have always put a lot of thought and effort into choosing gifts for people. So, I love to see that persons face when they open their presents on Christmas morning.

5. Candles -  I have to admit, I have an addiction to candles. This isn't a problem that is solely related to Christmas, but it is definitely made worse by the festive season. I was shopping with my Mum and Dad the other week and they commented that I can't walk past a candle without smelling it - they are very accurate! I love nothing better than getting home from work and making my flat all cosy with a couple of candles. Christmas scents are the best for this time of year - they really get me in the festive  mood.

6. Christmas Markets & Events - Whether it's your local Christmas lights switch on or attending a big city Christmas market, the seasonal events are great. In the village I grew up in, they have a lights switch on every year. There is maybe a couple of hundred people there, but the sense of community spirit is lovely. With Christmas carols, mince pies, mulled wine and an appearance from the big man himself. I also love to attend at least one Christmass market over the festive period. I still haven't been to Winter Wonderland in London, but maybe that will be on the to-do list for this year.

What is your favourite thing about Christmas? Let me know in the comments below.
Love, Kate xx
