How To: Survive Freshers

Seven years ago, I got my A-Level results and I found out that I had been accepted into Nottingham Trent Univerity (T.R.E.N.T....comment below if you know the rest!)
I will admit it, I cried like a baby when I found out I had got in. I was looking forward to moving out of my parent's house and starting my degree, but mostly, I was excited to be a Fresher!

I feel incredibly old saying that I was a fresher seven years ago, but I want to share with you what made freshers, and the subsequent three years, the most incredible years of my life....

1. Be yourself - University gives you the space to re-invent yourself or find your own identity, but be careful of trying to be someone you're not. You will be with the people around you for a minimum of three years, make sure you show them your true self.

2. Join as many sports teams/society groups as you can - In most Universities, they have the sports social nights out on a Wednesday, this was the best night out of the week. But, in order to be guaranteed a ticket, you needed to be part of a sports team or society. These groups are also amazing for making new friends. I went out with surf, netball, tennis, name it, I tried it!

3. Try something new - This links to the point above. Whether it's a new sport or a new food, freshers is all about trying something new. For many of you, it will be your first time living away from home - make the most of all these new experiences.

4. Attend as many of the freshers events as you can - Whether it's nights out, your course induction or your halls talk, these are all so important. These are all chances to get to know people and create incredible memories together. Memories and friendships, I guarantee, you will still have seven years later.

5. Join facebook groups before you go - I managed to find a group for my halls, my course, and the general Universty one. This was invaluable for me. Before I even set foot in Nottingham, I knew most of the people who I would be sharing a flat with and some people who would also be on my course. This makes the first day less daunting if you can already put a face to a name.

6. Be prepared to spend a small fortune on fancy dress - no freshers week is complete without at least one night of fancy dress. The facebook groups I mentioned before are also really useful to find out the fancy dress themes for freshers week, so you can be prepared.

7. Don't do anything you'll regret - Freshers week is crazy, but ensure that you make it crazy for the right reasons. It might be your first taste of freedom, which feels amazing, but please make sure you stay true to yourself. Freshers is full of new people, alcohol, late nights and parties - ensure you are only doing things that you are totally comfortable with.

8. Have the most amazing time - My time at Nottingham Trent University was honestly some of the best years of my life. If I could go back and re-live my freshers again, I would do it in a heartbeat. I wish the same for all of you too.

Let me know in the comments what University you will be going to?

What's in My Bag?

Who doesn't love a 'what's in my bag post', any excuse for a snoop around someone's bag. Before I get down to business with this, I want to put out a disclaimer. My bag obviously has the odd tampon and old receipt hiding in there somewhere, but they don't really make pretty flatlay do they. So I have included the contents of my bag, without the rubbish no-one wants to see.

Mulberry Bayswater - Oak
Let's get started with my bag, this is my baby. I was so lucky to receive this for a graduation gift, and 4 years later it still looks as good as new. There is no getting around this, Mulberry handbags are a expensive, luxury purchase. But if we are looking at price per wear, this bag has paid for itself time and time again.

Mulberry Continental Wallet - Oak
In addition to the bag, I also have a matching purse. The size of this purse is perfect, it has space for coins, cash and my abundance of loyalty cards! This purse wasn't cheap but, unlike the bag, I use this purse every single day. The leather has aged really beautifully on it.

Rayban Wayfarer - Tortoise
I bought these sunglasses 7 years ago and I haven't stopped wearing them. I love the tortoise shell pattern, I find this really compliments my dark hair. I have the Rayban Aviators too, but these Wayfarers are always the ones I reach for most on sunny days.

MAC Studio Fix Powder
This might not be the first time you have seen this product featured on my blog. It is a holy grail product for me. I always have this in my bag to help keep my shiny face at bay. I like how it has a sponge in the compact, meaning I don't need to pack a brush too.

Crabtree & Evelyn Pear and Pink Magnolia Ultra-Moisturising Hand Therapy
For me, I cannot stand having dry hands. I always like to carry some hand cream with me for this reason. I received a set of these hand creams for christmas last year. I find they are such a useful size to pop into my bag. This is probably my favourite scent so far.

Tanya Burr Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick - Martha Moo
Like the MAC powder, you are probably bored of me banging on about this product. I just love it so much. It is long lasting, easy to apply and the most perfect nude shade. Just amazing.

L'Oreal Collection Exclusive Lipstick - JLo's Nude
I have also been loving this lipstick recently. I have been wearing it on it's own, or sometimes paring it with Martha Moo. The shades compliment each other so well. This, again, is a perfect nude shade for me. It also feels really nourishing to the lips.

Paperchase - Bloggers Journal
I bought this journal not long after I started my blog and it has been a godsend. I use this to plan my post schedule, set goals and jot down ideas. I like to keep this with me, so when inspiration strikes I can keep a note of it.

What products do you always carry in your bag?
If you have one, link me below your 'what's in my bag' posts.

My Fitness Journey: Couch to Half Marathon

This week I made a bold decision, I signed up to complete the Bath Half Marathon.

You might not know this about me, but I don't run. The last time I ran was at school, and all I have is horrible memories of always coming last in the cross country. I suffered bullying in school because of my weight, so I would do anything to get out of PE and Games classes. Now I am older, I regularly work out, but running has never been my thing. Until now.

With all that said, you're probably thinking 'why the hell did she sign up for a half marathon'. Well, I have to blame part of it on peer pressure from my work colleagues, who are also completing the run. But, I also want to do it for myself. The sense of achievement from crossing the finishing line will be incredible. The benefits to my health and fitness are a really important factor. I have been wanting to improve my fitness for years - so what better way than running 13 miles (eek!)

Over the next 7 months, I want to document my journey from the couch (literally) to me crossing the finish line at the Bath Half. I want you to share this experience with me, and also help to keep me motivated.

I know it's not going to be easy, but I'm up for the challenge. I'm excited to share it with you, the good and (I'm sure) the bad.

I would really appreciate any tips or advice that you have for me?
Please leave them in the comments, or get in touch via Twitter/Instagram.

MakeUp Revolution Haul & Product Review

Makeup Revolution is quickly becoming my favourite drugstore makeup brand. So, when I saw they had offers on their website, I had to get involved. I said this in my last Makeup Revolution haul, but the value for money with this brand is incredible. On these products, I spent £31.49, yes for everything! You might think for his price they would be lacking in quality, but they really don't. This is what I love about Makeup Revolution.

9 Piece Amazing Brush Collection - £10, should have been £20
I'm always on the look out for new brushes to try, it's not just because it means I have to wash all my brushes less frequently! When I saw this set was half price, I had to have it. I used pretty much all of the brushes to create the look below. I was really impressed by them. They were really soft, they distributed the product well and there was no fall out of the bristles. Very pleased with them.

Rose Gold Lipstick, Chauffer - £3
I had seen a lot of beauty bloggers talking about this product, and now I know why. Firstly, it's the beautiful rose gold packaging, it's so pretty. The shade, chauffeur, is a lovely pinky nude. It's perfect to complement any makeup look. Finally, this product has a really buttery, creamy texture that glides onto the lips really nicely. I am so impressed with this product, I can't believe it is only £3.

Ultimate Iconic Palette - £10, should have been £20
This product immediately caught my eye on the website. This palette has all the shades I could ever need. I really love the Makeup Revolution eyeshadows, they are so pigmented and really easy to blend, this palette is no different. The value for money with this offer is incredible.

Advanced Complexion Expert - £5.99
Like my brushes, I like to have a stock of sponges. I avoid the plague like I avoid cleaning my sponges. I really like this applicator, it's not as soft as my Real Techniques sponge, but it distributes foundation really well. The sponge also has really useful contours for applying foundation and also blending out cream bronzer.

Baked Blusher, Loved Me The Best - £2.50
You might have seen I purchased one of these blushers in my last haul and I absolutely loved it. So, of course, I had to get myself another shade to try. Again, I am still so impressed with these blushers. I love the pigmentation and also the shimmer they leave on your cheeks. This is such a high-quality product for £2.50
I used all the products in this haul to create the makeup look below...
What's your go-to Makeup Revolution product at the moment?

The Unique Blogger Award

Firstly, this post is very overdue! I was nominated for the Unique Blogger Award by the very lovely Jodie over at I love the idea of this award. It, again, shows how amazing and supportive the blog community is. So, I am going to keep sharing the love around.

First, a little housekeeping to get out of the way, every blogger will need to comply with the following rules:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated and leave their link
2. Include a quote and one meme that you really like
3. Nominate 8-13 bloggers yourself
4. Ask your nominees 3 questions
5. Make sure you link the award creator: Kate Gold

The Questions Jodie Asked Me:

What is your horoscope and do you read your star-signs daily?

I am a Taurus - I fit this star sign to a tee as I can be very stubborn! I don't read my sign daily, but if I see it in a magazine or newspaper I will always read it. I don't really believe in start signs predicting what will happen to you, but I do think they fit with people's a personality and characteristics.

Favourite thing to do to pamper yourself?
To pamper myself I love to have a good exfoliate and then put on some really nourishing moisturiser. I love to do a face mask, even though I don't do them enough. I then like to put on some clean PJs and watch a good film or a TV series. I know I don't give enough time to myself to do this.
What are your future goals?
My future goals are to be happy and content in myself. I want to spend as much time as possible with good friends and family. I have just recently made a list of 30 things before I am 30 (coming to a blog post soon!) Ultimately, I'm going to be doing things for me, not for anyone else! With regards to goals for my blog, I'm so excited to see where it will go. I want to keep growing, developing my blog and to keep learning every day.

My Favourite Meme:

This is me all over at the over boys any day!

My Favourite Quote:

I love this quote. It's so motivational, it has kept me going when things have been hard over the last few months.

Ok, so onto my nominees...
I Nominate:
Vee O'Sullivan
The Beauty Analyst
Hannah's Wonderland
Make Erin Over
Kaleidoscope Peonies
Martha Molly

Three Questions for My Nominees:

1. What is your favourite thing about blogging?

2. Tell us a random fact about yourself

3. What is your holy grail beauty product at the moment and why?

I couldn't nominate everyone (even though I wish I could) but I would be really interested to see your answers in the comments below! I look forward to seeing your answers!

Love, Kate xx

July Favourites

It's that time again..... favourites!! I can't quite believe this is my third favourites post, that means I have been blogging for three months. It doesn't feel that long at all.
Anyway, let's get on with it...

L'Oreal Paris Pure Clay Detox Mask
I love a mask. I know I don't do them enough, but when I do, I really enjoy it. When I saw L'Oreal had brought out a new range of masks, I had to try them. I immediately went for this one as it claimed to be like a 'magnet' to 'draw out impurities'. I will fall for anything that says it will draw out my impurities, but, this actually does! You can see the product sinking into your pores when the mask is on. It's a bit disgusting, but at least you can actually see the product is working. My skin was so clear and soft after I removed the mask. The only issue is I really want to get the other two after trying this one!!!

Oribe Dry Texturising Spray
You might have seen me banging on about this product in my recent Hair Routine post. I have been loving it throughout the month of July. You may already know this about me, but I am always on the lookout for volume and texture in my hair. I love how this product gives me that, without my hair feeling weighed down or sticky. This product is expensive (£19 for quite a small can!!), but it is really worth it. I just like to use it sparingly!!

M&S Island Escape
I got this fragrance in an M&S Beauty Box (review here). I have been wearing this most days throughout July for work. For me, I don't like to wear my more expensive perfumes for work. This fragrance has a lovely, fresh and summery scent. It's been perfect to wear to work as it doesn't have a heavy or overpowering smell. Sadly, when I looked on the M&S website it is sold out - but hopefully, they might be getting more in.

Tanya Burr Soft Luxe Lipgloss -  Martha Moo
This has been my go-to lip product throughout July. You might have seen that I mentioned this in my Matte Liquid Lip Haul and my Wedding Makeup Look, I loved it then and I am still loving it now. It's the perfect nude for me, not too pink, but also not too brown. I have been getting so many compliments when I am wearing it. When I wore this to the wedding it lasted me all day - I think I only touched it up a couple of times. I would highly recommend this. Again, it seems to be sold out on FeelUnique and Superdrug, but I am sure that they will be re-stocking.

Orange is the New Black
During this month, I binged watched the new series of OITNB! I had a weekend where I wasn't doing anything, so I watched the new series back to back. I have loved all the other series, but this one has to be my favourite. Such a cliffhanger at the end though - don't worry, no spoilers!!! Bring on the next series!!

What have you been loving this month?
Love, Kate xx
