Hair Routine: Curls

I went to a wedding last weekend, you might have seen my wedding makeup look post. I wanted to share with you the hair routine I did on the day. This is the routine I use pretty much whenever I curl my hair. So, if you want to find out how I created the hair above, keep reading....
I begin with washing my hair, see my current haircare routine here. Before drying, I use a really small amount of the TIGI Bed Head Small Talk Thickifier (great name!) I find this really helps to give my hair more volume. I then rough dry my hair until it is completely dry. I will use a round brush at the roots - again, looking for that volume.
Once my hair is dry, I then go in with the curling wand. I use the Remington wand, this one is really hot so it helps the curls to hold. I don't really have any particular way of using the wand, I just make sure all the curls are going away from my face.
Once all the curls are done, I often find that they can be more on the riglet side of curls - not for me. So I will crush through the curls with a wide tooth comb. I find this gives me a really nice wave. I add a really small amount of the Aussie 3 Miracle Oil, I find this really helps to give the curls shine and smooths flyaways.
Finally, I add a really light amount of the Batiste Stylist Oomph My Locks XXL Volume Spray to my roots. I find this adds volume without having to ruin my hair backcombing it. I also add a spritz of the   Oribe Dry Texturising Spray to the ends of my hair to give the curls a bit of texture, if they need it.

and just like magic....

What are your tips for curling your hair? Let me know in the comments.

Wedding Makeup Look

Last weekend, two of my lovely friends got married. It was the most special day and I was so lucky to share their day with them. They had the most amazing venue and the weather was beautiful. I was surrounded by all of my friends - it was just the best!!
I wanted to share with you the makeup look I did on the day, so if you're interested in seeing how I created the look above, please keep reading...
To begin with, I prepped my face in the exact way that I did in my Festival Makeup post, so go check that out! For foundation, I am still loving the Infallible Matte Foundation. It is so long lasting, exactly what you need for a wedding. I applied this with my MAC Oval 6 brush - I love the finish this brush gives. I applied the foundation in two thin layers as I find this helps my foundation last longer. For concealer, I used the Collection Lasting Perfection. I find this is so brightening under my eyes. Finally, to set this all in place, I used my trusty MAC Studio Fix Powder.
I wanted a really neutral look for the wedding, so for my eyes, I reached for my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette. I went in with 'Foxy' all over my lid to neutralise my lids and create a bit of a base. I then put 'Chopper' from my lashline to my crease. I then defined my crease using Benefit Hoola Bronzer, I absolutely love to use this in my crease. I then ran a small amount of 'Blackout' along my upper lashline to give some definition. For mascara, I used the L'Oreal Paris Mega Volume Collagene 24 Hour Mascara. I love how full this makes my lashes. For my brows, I used the Eylure Firm Brow Pencil in dark brown. I then added to this using the Benefit Gimme Brow Volumising Eye Gel.
For contour, I used the Makeup Revolution Ultra Contour Palette. I'm not a fan of a really strong contour in the day, so I just kept it really soft. I then set my contour with a bit more Benefit Hoola Bronzer. I then added a sweep of The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer highlighter, I also added some of this in the inner corners of my eyes to really brighten them up. I added a bit of the Makeup Revolution Baked Blusher, in the shade Hard Day, to my cheeks. I love how this has a highlight in it too.
For lips, I used my fave Primark lip liner. I then used my absolute favourite, the Tanya Burr Martha Moo Luxe Lip Gloss. I'm still not sure why they refer to it as a gloss because it isn't. It's a beautiful matte lip colour, which lasted all day - even with lots of eating and drinking!

What's your favourite makeup look for a wedding? Let me know in the comments.

My Favourite Motivational Quotes

I love a good quote - I'm not really sure why, but I find words can be so motivational. I've been going through a tough time personally recently (I might do a post on this one day....maybe), and honestly, these quotes have helped me through.
This one is so true - things might not be great, but it won't last the rest of your life.

I love this as it reminds me to find good in every day - even the crappy ones.

I love this (not just because it involves lipstick) because it reminds me that you just have to pick yourself up and get on with life.

I think I have to thank this quote for the reason my blog exists. I strongly believe that if you have faith and belief in yourself, you can do anything.

Finally, this one reminds me to not just do well/be successful in life, but to also be a nice person and give back to others.
What are your favourite quotes?

Boutique of Molly - Hailey Playsuit

I came across Boutique of Molly on Twitter and fell in love. I had seen other bloggers mentioning them - so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Now I know why so many people love this brand. They have some beautiful pieces on their website. So last Sunday, I treated myself to the Hailey Playsuit.
The first thing that I was so impressed with was the shipping time, I ordered this on Sunday and it was in my house by the Tuesday - all pretty in a pink parcel. The quality of the material is excellent. I always worry about buying white clothes because, more often than not, they end up being see-through. This playsuit isn't. It appears to have an extra lining inside to keep you all covered where you need it most!
I am a tall girl, so I always have to go up a size in playsuits. But, I would say the item is pretty true to size. The playsuit comes with a tie around the waist but, because I had gone up a size, it wasn't pulling me in as much as it would have done if it was a size smaller. So, I added a tan belt which really compliments the item.
There is nothing that I don't love about the playsuit, the fit, the pattern, the comfort - it has it all! I think this would be perfect with a floppy hat and sandals on holiday, or teamed with white trainers for a festival. I think I will be going with the latter option and taking this to SW4 with me.

KIKO MILANO Eyeshadow Review

I'm not sure how I have managed this - but I have never tried any KIKO products!I know, shame on me. I have't been shopping in Bristol in ages, so didn't realise that there is now a KIKO store. I was already excited to finally swatch some of their products - but to add to my excitement, there was a sale! I didn't go mad, but I did pick up three pieces that were in the sale.
I picked up two of the Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadows, I purchased shade 05 - Rosy Brown and 25 - Light Taupe. These shades are so pretty. They are also really long lasting, they claim to have 8 hour wear and I would say they pretty much do that. I knew that the moment I swatched them on my hands - it was so hard to rub off!! These reminded me of the ByTerry stick, but these are so much more affordable.
Shade 05
Shade 25

I also purchased one of the Water Eyeshadows, I got shade 202 - Golden Mauve. This eye shadow is so pigmented dry, and even more so when used wet. This shade compliments both the stick eyeshadows, so I have been wearing them together a lot. I had heard a lot of good things about these eyeshadows and I wasn't disappointed.

What are you favourite KIKO products?

My Evening Skincare Routine

My evening skincare routine can either be the best or the worst part of my day. Sometimes I cannot wait to give my face a good cleanse, but other days (when I'm feeling lazy) I just cannot be bothered. I have been trying to get myself into a good routine and avoiding at all costs face wipes!!
To begin my routine, I will cleanse my face and eyes with the Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm. I mix the balm with a small amount of water and then rub it all over my face. I  then use the Dual Action Profession Cleansing Cloth to remove the product and cleanse my face. If I have been wearing a lot of makeup that day, I might follow this up with a second cleanse, but more often than not, one usually does it.

Now my face is clean, I will then add a few drops of the Neal's Yard Rehydrating Rose Organic Facial Oil. Now, for all you oily skinned folk, I too wouldn't have gone near a facial oil. Like seriously, oil on my already oily face. But I was so wrong. This hydrates my skin without making it overly greasy. I love this so much that I will only use this product now, instead of a night cream.
To finish off, I will add a spritz of the Rodial Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic Tonic and a swipe of the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil. If you have read my Morning Skincare Routine, you will know why I love these products so much!

To end my routine, I use the Thera-Pearl Eye Mask. A couple of weeks ago, I was diagnosed with blepharitis. It isn't serious, but it makes my eyes feel really dry. So, every evening I pop the pack into the microwave for 15 seconds and then sit with it on my eyes for 5 mins. It is so relaxing and it's helping my eyes - so it's a winner all around!

My Morning Skincare Routine

There is nothing I love more than my morning skincare routine. For me, I don't feel fully awake until I have cleansed and prepped my face.
The first step in my routine is to cleanse my eyes with the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water - I use the combination and sensitive skin one. I suffer with blepharitis, so this leaves my eyes feeling clean and refreshed. I will then cleanse the rest of my face with the micellar water and a cotton wool pad.
If I did a particularly bad job at taking my makeup off the night before, I might do a quick cleanse with the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser. I massage this all over my face and eyes and then cleanse with one of the Liz Earle Pure Muslin Cloths
Now my skin is all clean, I give my face a spritz with the Rodial Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic Tonic. I really notice the difference when I use this product. My skin feels hydrated (but not oily) and more glowy. I love it!
I will leave the hyaluronic tonic to sink into my skin. While I am waiting, I will add some of the Clarins Instant Light Lip Oil to my always dry lips. I love this product. It has made such a difference to my lips and it isn't at all sticky.
And finally, I will finish off my skincare routine with a good helping of moisturiser. I use the Jurlique Balancing Day Care Cream. It's such a lovely, rich moisturiser.  I usually head for the hills when I see a rich moisturiser (oily skin problems) but I find this moisturiser is perfect for my skin.

Matte Liquid Lipstick Haul & First Impressions

Over the last two weeks, I have somehow managed to purchase SIX matte liquid lipsticks! I mean, they are everywhere at the minute. So, what better excuse than to give you a haul and first impressions post.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream - Vancouver

I have been so late onto the NYX lip cream bandwagon. So, whilst browsing on Feel Unique, I finally decided to see what all the fuss is about. I love this colour - maybe not quite appropriate for the summer, but I can't wait to wear this in the winter!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream - Abu Dhabi

This is the other NYX matte lip product that I bought. So many people have raved about their nude shades, and now I can see why. This is the perfect nude for me. I also think the constancy of these lip products is so nice, I don't find the really drying like other matte lip products.

When I saw that Tanya Burr had brought out matte lip products I had to try them. This shade is so pretty for summer. Such a lovely coral/pink shade. I think it would be perfect with a tan - gutted that I am not going away this summer :(

Tanya Burr Soft Luxe Lip Gloss - Martha Moo

We all know I couldn't just buy one of the Tanya Burr lip products - partly because I couldn't decide which one I wanted better. Also because how cute is the name!! This colour is super pretty and it really goes with the browny-nude/90s vibe that seems to be everywhere at the moment. I can't wait to pair this lip with my black choker and listen to the Spice Girls.

Like most people, I love a red lip. But I find that I have to keep an eye on my face, just to check the lipstick hasn't shifted where it shouldn't be. So what better way to overcome this that with a matte red. I love the shade, it's a lovely pillar box red. Again, this product doesn't feel really drying to the lip.

While I loved the red version of this product, the plum I'm not loving so much. I found the application was much harder due to the product being a more watery consistency. I also found that it wasn't as pigmented as the red (you can probably tell from the swatches). It is a lovely shade - it just lacks pigmentation.

June Favourites

So June has been and gone, summer feels practically over...and here in the UK we haven't even had a summer yet. Soggy is the word I would use to describe this year's summer. But, while the weather has been a complete letdown, there has been some products that have been brightening my days.

I raved about this product in my Makeup Revolution haul and first impressions post. Having used this product a bit more, I am obsessed with it! I find the product blends so easy, unlike some other cream contours. I love the range of shades they have in this palette. There are shades for a brightening under the eye and a variety of contour shades to suit different skin tones, or to vary the severity of your contour. I could go on, but I will stop. I just urge you to try this out. For £8, this is a serious steal!!

Rodial Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic Tonic
I got this product within an M&S beauty box - I did a post about this too! I wasn't too sure what to expect from this product, thinking it was another gimmicky, expensive spray that didn't really do a lot. But I was so impressed with this product. I have combination complexion - with an oily t-zone and dry/normal skin everywhere else. I have been spraying this after cleansing in the morning and evening. I feel it has made such a difference to the feel of my skin. It normally feels really tight after cleansing - but this gives its a nice boost of hydration!

Before I can talk about the product its self, can we just talk about the scent of this product? It's actually like a Terry's chocolate orange. It smells incredible - good enough to eat you might say (but don't do that). Right now I have got the smell out of the way, to the actual product. This product is as good as it smells. It left my skin super soft and it was good knowing that I wasn't putting lots of chemicals on my skin like other scrubs. I got this sample pack in the Glamour Summer Edit box, but I will definitely be re-purchasing.

Maybelline Master Contour V Shape Duo Stick
I have been loving this product for when I need to do my makeup in a rush (like every morning before work!) It is super easy to swipe on the contour and highlight, blend and you're away. I wouldn't trade this in for the Makeup Revolution contour kit, but for mornings when I am in a rush this is a godsend for my cheeks!

I featured this product in a recent wish list post and, like my own fairy godmother, I granted my own wish and purchased this foundation. I am so happy I did. This has perfect coverage for everyday use, it is also buildable to full coverage. I love the dewy look this gives to your skin. With my oily skin, I am normally scared of the word 'dewy' but this product is lovely. It's also the perfect shade for me, which I find is rare.

I recently won a years supply of L'Oreal hair products - woop! I love the all the products in the range, seen my first impressions here. But, I feel this product makes the most different. I have really oily hair, to the point where I need dry shampoo the day after washing (!) But this product has made such a difference to the oiliness of my roots! I would really recommend to anyone with similar hair to mine.

I hate having my nails painted, why you ask, because they ALWAYS chip! It is my main annoyance in life. No matter what base or top coats I put on, they always chip. I have tried all the 'gel like' products and none of them seem to work for me...until now. This is my saviour. I actually lasts on my nails and doesn't chip. Hallelujah! It's also a beautiful colour, I will definitely be heading to Nails Inc to buy more.

What have been your favourite products in June?
