5 Things I Have Learnt in One Month of Blogging

I have officially been blogging for one month - yey! Go me! One month ago, on the 30th May, I was sitting at home on a Bank Holiday Monday, nursing a two day hangover and whiplash(!) and I wrote my first blog post. This had been something that I had been wanting to do for years, but never had the courage. Maybe the painkillers affected my thinking! The last month has been whirlwind. My blog is growing by the day and, with this, I have learnt so much.

1. The blogging community are the most lovely people

I obviously came to the 'blogging world' knowing that I would be a teeny, tiny, little fish in a pretty huge pond. There seemed to be so many successful bloggers with thousands of followers and, to be honest, I was a little bit intimidated. But what has really stood out to me is how nice everyone has been. From sharing tips about blogging, to giving nice feedback about my blog, everyone has been so supportive. It's fab!!

2. Twitter chats are the most fun

Twitter chats have been so useful for networking and getting to speak to lots of the support people I mentioned in my first point. If you are new to a chat people are always so welcoming. It's also been a great place for me to learn blogging tips, find new blogs to read and also find recommendations for beauty products (not that I need the encouragement to buy any more cosmetics!) If you haven't tried a Twitter chat, you are totally missing out.

3. It's a lot harder than I looks

Now, before I start with this, I didn't think that blogging was easy. But I didn't realise how much of my time it would take up. It's like a part-time job in itself! With the taking images, editing the images, writing the post, proof reading the post, gathering the links....I mean, I could go on. There is so much that is involved in blogging that I didn't really consider. With all of this said, I really wouldn't change any of it. I am loving every moment and really enjoying have a creative outlet that I didn't have before. All the hard work is totally worth it.

4. Numbers aren't everything

Blogging has taught me that some people are so focussed on the 'numbers' and 'follow4follow'. Don't get me wrong, I know having a blog is useless if no one is going to read it. But for me, my blog is my little space on the internet where I can write about the things I am loving or whatever is on my mind. I have been blow away by how much my blog has grown over the last month, but I know its important to remember why I started my blog in the first place - which wasn't for thousands of followers or loads of 'freebies'.

5. You can do anything if you set your mind to it

Before I started this blog I was so down on myself and did have any confidence in my ability to write a blog. But here we are, a month into my blog and I have been able to write a number of pretty good (if I say so myself) blog posts. So doubting Kate, you were wrong! I have grown to genuinely love blogging and I am so excited to push my blog and myself further.

I don't know where this blog will take me, but I am so excited to find out. Here's to many more months. Thanks again for all your continued support.

Summer Breakfast Smoothies

Smoothies are my 'go to' breakfast at the moment. They are so quick and easy - also if I'm running really late (like every morning) I can take them in the car with me.
So, I thought I would share my two of my favourite smoothie recipes with you. The blender I used for both recipes is a NutriBullet - I have been so impressed with it, well worth the money. My top tip is to buy frozen fruit. It means that you don't need to add ice, also I find I waste so much money on fresh fruit as it goes off so quick. I was so surprised at the range of frozen fruit the supermarkets offer, so I always make sure I am stocked up on frozen fruits.
1 frozen banana
2 handfuls of spinach
1/2 cup of oats
1 tbsp peanut butter
Almond milk (as much or as little as you like)

Put it all in a blender and whizz it up.
You might need to add more almond milk if it is too thick.

1/2 frozen banana
2 handfuls of spinach
2 handfuls of frozen berries (I usually get the mixed summer berries pack)
1/2 cup of oats
1 tsp chia seeds
Almond milk (as much or as little as you like)

Put it all in a blender and whizz it up.
You might need to add more almond milk if it is too thick.

Have you got a 'go to' smoothie recipe?

L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay - First Impressions

Last month I entered the L'Oreal Hair Obsession competition and I won!! I have to thank Suzie from Hello October for bringing this competition to my attention via her YouTube channel. I never win anything, so this was a really nice surprise for me!

These products describe the exact hair problems that I have, dry ends and oily roots - so I was really excited to try them out. I have the kind of hair where I will wash it and then need to use dry shampoo the day after - incredibly annoying! I was hoping these products were the answers to my prayers, and (spoiler!) they didn't let me down.

These are the products I received:

The first step is the Pre-Shampoo Treatment Clay Masque. This product is bright blue with a thick consistency. I applied this to my hair when it was dry, just focussing on the roots. I then left this on my hair for about 5 mins, looking slightly strange with a blue head! A bit of a disclaimer with this product, it does leave your hands with a bit of a blue tinge. But, trust me, this does wash off by the time you're out of the shower!

So after the 5 minutes was up, I hopped into the shower and washed off the clay masque. Despite the thickness of the masque, it was super easy to wash off. I then applied the Re-Balancing Shampoo and Re-Balancing Conditioner. The these products are white - no more scary blue hands! I applied the shampoo all over my head and the product lathered really well. I then applied the conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of my hair.

I used the Clay to Spray Dry Shampoo the morning before I used these products. I was really impressed with this particular product. Being a brunette, the normal white powder you get from dry shampoos is really irritating. I found the white residue was so much less with this product. What I also loved was the smell of this product, it was so fresh. It felt like Febreze for your hair!

I was sceptical if these products would be able to deal with my oily hair, but I was really pleasantly surprised. I found this product banished the oil in my roots, without drying out the ends of my hair. I would definitely re-purchase all of these products.

I want to share my love of these products with you, so keep your eyes peeled for a giveaway coming very soon!!

Have you tried these products? What is your hair care routine?

The Glamour Summer Edit Unboxing

I love the changing seasons, but not for the weather or the prospect of digging out clothes you haven't worn in a while. I love them because it means Glamour Edit time!! I am fully obsessed with these beauty boxes.

I got this box from Latest in Beauty, I really love this website. They have all the Glamour boxes, including the other beauty boxes Glamour do throughout the year.

Included in the Summer Edit is:

Grounded Chocolate Orange Body Scrub
I have heard so many good things about this brand, so I am really excited to try this. I hear that they are smell good enough to eat (yum!)

Revlon Ultra Matte Lipcolour - Devotion
I love these lip colours. When I saw they were in the Summer Edit I was so happy.  I have a couple of these already, but thankfully I don't already have this shade. Its a really pretty pink nude share - super excited to try it. This product is full size too!

Oribe Dry Texturising Spray
I was watching a favourites video with this product featured, the girl used this in her hair on camera and WOW - it gave her hair so much volume and it looked great. I have been really wanting to try this, but at £39 for 300ml I couldn't justify buying it. So, lets prey that I don't fall in love with this product.

St Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mist
St Tropez is such a cult tanning brand - I love them. I haven't tried the bronzing mist, so I will be looking forward to getting this on my pasty legs.

Ladival Sun Protection Spray SPF 30
This is a brand that I had never heard of before. I am pretty lazy when it comes to sun cream, usually getting whatever is on offer at Boots. So this is a bit more fancy for me. Sadly, I won't be going anywhere sunny this year, but lets hope I get to test this out in the UK (wishful thinking!)

Nuxe Prodigieux Shower Oil
This product sounds so luxurious, a shower oil, yes please! This product smells incredible - apparently its 'layered with notes of' orange blossom, vanilla and magnolia - yum!

Aurelia Miracle Cleanser and Bamboo Muslin Cloth
Again, this is another brand that I have never come across. I love finding new brands in beauty boxes. I love how this already comes with a muslin cloth, you can never have too many of those!

Wow Mask Luxury Facial Mask
Face masks are something that I don't do often enough. I need to give myself more time to chill out with a face mask on. So, what better time to try this out and get my skin looking good. I have a wedding coming up next month, so this might be the perfect time to give my face a bit of a treat!

All that for £20!!

What I also love is that you get  money off vouchers for the products inside, so if you like something you have a discount code to re-purchase. Winner!

Have you tried any of these products? What do you think?

Makeup Revolution - Mini Haul and First Impressions

There is such a buzz about Makeup Revolution at the moment. So, you know me by now, there isn't a bandwagon without me hopping on it! I've been searching for their products for ages, but my local Superdrug doesn't stock them. So when I saw them when I was visiting my Mum and Dad back up North, I had to purchase a few bits!!
So, here are the products I picked up....

1. Redemption Eye Palette - Essential Mattes 2

I am a sucker for a nude palette! But with this one, I really love how these are all matte shades. Don't get me wrong, I love a bit of shimmer as much as the next person. But, it is handy to have a pallet of all mattes. I found these shadows really pigmented and easy to blend. Considering this palette is £4, I would say that it is totally worth the money. I wouldn't say that I would trade my Naked palette for it, but I have found it useful to combine the two palettes. It's got my recommendation.

2. Ultra Cream Contour Pallette

I went for this palette over the powder version as I have so many powder bronzers/contour sets I could open a beauty shop of my own. I want to experiment with more cream products. Other than foundation and concealer, I really only use powder products. I have loved this product so far. I really like how it has a ange of colours - this allows for a softer or more severe contour. I also like that it has the yellow shade, I find this works well under my eyes to get rid of my big, old bags! I'm still getting used to contouring with cream products, not my trusty hoola bronzer,  but as a whole this product is really good quality. Again, for £8, it definitely gets my seal of approval.

3. Baked Blusher - Hard Day

I initially picked this up because of how pretty it looked. You can see it's got a gorgeous, marbled texture throughout. This product is SO pigmented, a little really goes a long way. My extremely pink cheeks could vouch for that the first time I used it! I have a MAC blusher that is really similar to this, and I couldn't even tell you the difference in quality. For £2.50, this is an absolute steal! I would definitely recommend!

Seeing the price point for the Makeup Revolution products, I was worried that the quality wouldn't be there. But that really isn't the case. I will definitely be purchasing some more products from their range in the future.

Have you tried any of the Makeup Revolution collection? Whats your favourite product?

Festival Make Up - Wildlife 2016

I love festivals, not only for the music and the great atmosphere, but also for the fashion and make up!!
I went to Wildlife Festival in Brighton last weekend. It was such an amazing festival - I would highly recommend it. I wanted to share with you the make up look I did for this festival and the products I used.

Firstly, I started by prepping my face. For moisturiser, I used the Jurlique Balancing Day Cream. I haven't been using this product long, but I am really loving it, even with my oily and sensitive skin. I used the classic Simple Kind to Eyes Revitalising Eye Roll On - I love how awake this makes me feel. To prime, I used the L'Oreal Infallible 24hr Matte Priming Base and the Collection Illuminating and Reviving Primer for my eyes. I then finished with a bit of Clarins Instant Light Comfort Lip Oil to aid my dry, chapped lips. I normally wait for a bit to let all this sink in, and then follow with my make up.

Now, before I begin with the make up products, I have to say I had no idea how much make up I slap on my face! This isn't an every day look, but!

That aside, here are all the products I used on the day. Introducing, my face...

For a base, I paired the primer with the Infallible Matte Foundation, I use shade 11. I applied this with a Real Techniques Beauty Sponge, applying two thin layers, leaving a few minutes for the foundation to set between layers. I find this this a really useful tip to help my foundation last all day. For concealer, I used my trusty Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer. I also used the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to highlight under my eyes. Then, to set all of this I used MAC Studio Fix Powder.

I then moved onto my eyes. I love a shimmery, glittery eye for a festival, so I reached for my Maybelline Colour Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadow in the shade Eternal Gold. This creates a really nice base for a powder shadow, and it's also super pigmented. I then packed a load of Urban Decay Half Baked on my lid and under my lash line. For my brows, I use the Eylure Firm Brow Pencil in dark brown. I then added to this using the Benefit Gimme Brow Volumising Eye Gel.

I contoured using the Benefit Hoola Bronzer, I've hit pan on this so you can see how much I love it! I blended this out and highlighted using The Balm Mary Lou Manizer. I am in love with this product!! I added a little of the Rockatur blusher and swept the Bobbie Brown Shimmer Brick all over my face. Can you tell I was going for a bronzy/shimmery look!!

For lips, I wanted to keep them neutral. There is nothing worse than being at a festival with a bright lip smudging and fading all over the place! So I used one of the Primark Lip Liners (love these!) and my MAC Velvet Teddy

What is your 'go to' festival look?

Love, Kate

M&S Beauty Box - First Impressions

Today I got my hands on the M&S Beauty Box, it was £10 and the products inside are worth £120. So as you do, the first thing I did when I got home was open the beauty box to have a nosey at what was inside, and I was seriously impressed!!

Unfortunately, I just went onto the M&S website and saw that this offer had sold out. I'm not sure if this will be a permanent thing, or if they will have some more back in stock. But I would seriously recommend you pop out and try to get one. You have to spend £40 in store, but I had my mum with me who was already buying some bits from M&, a perfect excuse of a shopping trip with your mum!

These are the products inside...

  • Swell ultimate protect and renew serum 30ml
  • Rodial Dragon's blood hyaluronic tonic 50ml
  • Philip Kingsley citrus sunshine swimcap 50ml
  • Pure instant radiance hot cloth cleanser 50ml
  • Ren instant firming beauty shot 10ml
  • Island escape eau de toilette 25ml
  • Nuxe huile prodigieuse 10ml

  • Leighton Denny crystal finish quick dry top coat 12ml
  • Stila lip glaze raspberry 1.5ml
  • Nails Inc gel one coat nail polish 10ml

Yes, all that!! I was seriously impressed with the amount of products in there. I am so excited to try the Rodial Dragon's blood hyaluronic tonic, I have heard really good things about this product. Also, the Island escape eau de toilette smells incredible, a really summery and fresh scent. I cannot wait to get trying.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your thoughts?

From the Desk to the Bar - After Work Drinks with T.M. Lewin

I know I'm not the only one who loves an after work drink. Sadly, for me, this happens a lot less frequently now I live in the countryside. But when I was living in Bristol, after work drinks was my favourite thing to do.

What always used to be a nightmare was transitioning my work outfit into an outfit fit for the bar (I was never that person who was super organised and kept heels in her desk draw!!) But, with small changes to an outfit, it can really change the whole look.

I think the transition from work to the bar is so different for men and women. Men seem to need to dress down their suit, where has women would prefer to vamp up what they already have on.

I am in love with this T.M. Lewin Navy Blue Strand Suit. I really like a slim fit suit, especially for a younger man. For work, I thought this would look great paired with a white shirt, polka dot tie and brown brogues - all from T.M. Lewin. I also saw these cufflinks on the website, and they are a piece of me. I am obsessed with anything monogrammed/personalised at the minute, these can go with suits for both formal and casual occasions.

To then transition this look to the bar, you could lose the tie, keep the shirt and the suit jacket and pair them with a more casual pair of chinos

I think it's a really common thought that T.M. Lewin only cater for men....they don't! They have some really lovely pieces for women too. I saw this dress and had to include it! I love the monochrome style, and its a really good length for the office. I would pair this dress with a classic pair of black heeled court shoes and my dream Michael Kors bag (swoon!) Also, I don't know about you, but to me offices are colder than the Antarctic, so this Carrara back cardigan would be perfect with this outfit to keep you warm.

So, here's the fun part, to transition this outfit for after work drinks I would lose the cardigan ('cause, who needs to be warm!) and the court shoes. Instead, I would add these gorgeous Steve Madden ankle boots to give the outfit a bit of a edge.

How do you transition from work to the bar?

Love, Kate

Five Beauty Products I NEED in My Life....

Maybe need is quite strong, I mean its not life or death, but I know my life would be improved by owning these products.

Now, at £85, this is more 'wishlist' material for me. But, I have heard so many good things about this product. It feels like a staple product that so many beauty bloggers talk about - so part of me wants to see what all the fuss is about.

Ambient Lighting Powder, DIFFUSED LIGHT, large
The last time I was in Space NK, I swatched this product and it was beautiful. Such a fresh glow from a powder, but not as intense as a highlighter. If I'm going to buy this, I feel it needs to be before the summer is gone!

3. MAC Whirl, £15.50

I know what you're thinking, 'how hasn't she already got whirl? It's a classic?' I agree with you!! I was in a twitter chat the other day and this lipstick was mentioned and I thought exactly that, why haven't I bought this yet?! Off to MAC I go....

Keeping on the MAC theme, if you read my May Favourites post, you would have seen that I have been obsessed with the MAC Oval 6 brush. This brush is slightly smaller so it's perfect for concealer or eye shadow. If it's anything like the Oval 6 I will be very happy.

L'Oreal Cushion Nude Magique Foundation Porcelain 1

I am so intrigued by this product. Foundation? Cushion? It all just sounds exciting. I have heard lots of really good things about this product too.

Have you tried any of these products? I'd really like to know what you thought of them

Primark Haul

So I'm like most people, I can't pass a Primark without going in to just 'have a look', and nine times out of ten I come out with at least one bag full of stuff. So yesterday was no exception.

I'm going to Wildlife festival next weekend so that was my goal for this shopping trip. I came across a really cute black and white stripe crop top for £6. I thought this would look so cute with high waisted black denim shorts and trainers.

I also got some bandanna style headbands - I was envisioning that I would look like Khloe Kardashian in these...but we will see. They had loads of colours, like red and dark blue, but I went for the black and grey as I thought those colours would match my wardrobe better.

I also picked up a gorgeous blue knitted cardigan, it was £14 so more on the pricer side for Primark. Its so cosy and I thought it would be perfect to put on later in the night (or if the weather isn't great - which it probably will be knowing the classic English summer). I'm thinking of pairing it with a blue denim shorts and a white crop top.

As far as festival accessories go, I just wanted to grab a cheap black shoulder/cross body bag that I could take with me and not really worry have to worry about getting it dirty or scratched. I also came across the a powerbank for £6, so I will have enough battery for lots of pictures and snapchats!

So even though my goal was festival items....obviously some other bits made their way into my basket. I picked up a new mug to take to work, because quite frankly my one at work is minging! Its got such a pretty pattern and for £2 its a bargain! I also picked up some new shoes for work. The image above really doesn't do them justice, the have a dual fabric with a suede effect on the toe and snakeskin effect leather along the sides, so pretty. And finally, some fairy lights that you may, or may not be seeing in future blogs....

I would love to hear what you have been buying in Primark lately?

Love, Kate

May Favourites

I know everyone starts monthly favourites in this way, but.....I honestly cannot believe it is June already! May was my birthday month and I was lucky enough to get some beautiful presents - most of which are featured in this blog. So without further ado ....

Dior Poison Girl Perfume

I saw lots of hype about this perfume from YouTubers and Bloggers so I had to smell this perfume for myself - and it is seriously worth the hype. It's one of the more pricer perfumes that I own, but it is worth every penny. It's got a really long lasting scent, not like some other perfumes that you put on and can smell for about an hour. Its a mix of a fresh, fruity scent with musky undertones - a magic combination!

MAC Oval 6 Brush

When I saw that MAC had created replicas of the Artis brushes I couldn't wait to try them out. Being a massive fan of MAC products in general I knew this had to be great - and it was. It is totally different to applying foundation with a beauty blender. I feel my foundation sits so much better on my skin, giving a really dewy and airbrushed effect. The brush is smaller than I thought it would be, but it really doesn't matter. I couldn't rave about his product more. I just hope my bank balance can cope with me going out to buy the rest of the range!

TGI Bed Head Small Talk

I feel like I have been on a search my whole life to find products to give my limp hair a bit of life. I am a sucker for any product that promises it will give my hair volume,  I believe them, buy their products and then feel let down when my hair looks EXACTLY THE SAME! Until now... I got this Bed Head Small Talk in a free sample box from Feel Unique. Firstly, this product is huge - definitely not normal sample size. Secondly, it actually works! My hair has never felt more voluminous. Thirdly, it smells incredible, it smells like marshmallows...or them fruit salad sweets. I couldn't recommend this product more.

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil

I don't know about you, but my lips are suffering with the weather lately. Its either freezing cold and raining or baking hot and my lips are suffering. This has been my saviour. I have been putting it on before I go to sleep and when I wake up in the morning I can still feel the product on my lips - now that's what you call long lasting! It leaves my lips feeling so soft and nourished, it also smells really good too!

And last but not least.....

The Rules of Life, by Richard Templar

I first read this book back at Christmas time when I was on holiday and loved it. I got it back out again this month and fell in love with it again. It really got me thinking about my life and how I behave as a person, what I am putting back into the world. The book talks about rules for you, partnerships, family and friends, social rules and rules for happiness. It gives you the tools to get more out of life and be able to deal with all the things life can throw at you. A really interesting read that gets you thinking about how you life your own life.

So that's my favourites, what have been your favourite things in May?
